Bath Mats…a lifesaving device!
August 17, 2011
Ok now that I’ve gotten your attention it’s true I’m hear to preach the good word of the bath mat. How do I know? Well let’s just say… wet tub + no bath mat = face plant. Yes I speak from experience unfortunately…on Monday morning i was getting into the shower and the mini fishy mats we had down were moved and my daughters must have spilled 1/2 the conditioner in the tub because I turned and my feet went right out from under me and slammed the bone right under my eye full impact against the side of the tub. Before I even jumped out of the tub i had a golf ball size hematoma…big word for huge bump filled with blood on the side of my face. Next thing i know I’m driving myself to the ER luckily I did not break anything but you know it’s bad when the doctors are cringing. I am not posting a photo because I’ve already tortured all my friends with them and they are completely grossed out. Let’s just say it changes shape and color like the weather changes in Chicago…quickly and with no warning.
So today’s lesson is…NEVER STEP INTO A TUB WITHOUT USING A BATH MAT!
I’m just so glad I don’t have the kind of job where I need to make eye contact with young children to connect with them so I can “capture” their personality in an image.
So it’s been a super tough week for me and I asked my friend Jules if she’d go see a movie with me…it had to be a comedy… stupid funny…low brow humor. So we went to go see The Change-Up we thought it was hilarious and no we weren’t drunk! Two friends wish they had each others life and poof it happens. Something about Ryan Reynolds…total irresponsible playboy and Jason Bateman…married, attorney, straight laced father switching places works. I want to watch it again just because I know I missed half the lines from laughing so hard.
here’s the trailer…The Change Up
One of my favorite moments…as mother’s we’ve all felt this one
Jamie (as babies are crying): “It’s your turn.”
Dave (really Mitch): “It’s three in the morning, you’re the mother.”
Jamie: “I’m the mother! It’s three o’clock in the morning! Get out of the bed right now before I cut you!”
Life is difficult…everyone has their own issues, stress, hurts they have to deal with everyday. I found a daily meditation book that I share with everyone because I find so much comfort in reading it…it’s by Melody Beattie and it’s called The Language of Letting Go… full of wonderful words, inspiring thoughts and positive meditations… it’s a gift you give to yourself daily.
She also writes a daily meditation and posts it online here’s a couple to check out…

August 17th… Let Go Of Judgements
We can’t relax when we’re being judgmental. As soon as we decide that a thing or situation is either good or bad, we place ourselves in the situation of having to do something about it. For example, if someone is good, we begin to comp are ourselves to that person: Am I better or worse? What can I do to improve? If we decide that a thing is bad, then our com science tells us that we must try to get rid of it.
Either way, we get so busy thinking about our judgments and allowing our minds to create scenarios that we cannot relax and enjoy things the way they are.
Drop your judgmental mind today and relax. If blessings or good people have come into your life, let them be. You do not have to be better or worse than they are.
If a thing is damaging or hurtful to you, you wifi know that and you can deal with it when the time comes.
Be aware of the people and things in your life. Relax and enjoy them without passing judgment on them.
God, help me learn to enjoy the people and experiences in my life.
August 16th…All The Time You Need
If we believe our relationships or jobs are finite situations, then it becomes easy to feel stressed if things don’t go the way we planned in the time frame that we expected. The promotion doesn’t come in time, and now our careful career plan is off track. And relationship problems become huge, dramatic monsters a series of issues- that eat away every spare minute.
But if we believe that we are living in an infinite time frame, stress begins to dissipate. if I don’t get the promotion this week, maybe it wifi come next month and who knows, I may not even want it by then. Some of those big, monstrous relationship issues just sort themselves out if they’re not constantly held under a magnifying glass. And the moments spent with our loved ones become more enjoyable because we’re not continually working on the relationship.
When we behave on a finite scale, we can get so wrapped up in the details of a few moments that we cannot free ourselves to enjoy the next moment. When we start living on an infinite plane, it is easier to relax and let the universe carry us down the river, bringing us to all the lessons and joy that we need.
God, help me relax and know that if a situation doesn’t come to pass today, eventually it will work itself out. And I’ve got all the time I need.
Read the book it’s awesome…see below
See the movie it’s awesome they did a great job love Emma Stone and you will leave the theatre in silence because it’s so honest, painful, funny, true, sad & inspiring…here’s a clip
“YOU IS SMART…YOU IS KIND…YOU IS IMPORTANT”…repeat that to yourself and your children everyday

3 times a charm
May 14, 2010
Here’s my Mother’s Day gift from my Mom…
Who knew my Mom was so “in the know”…I had just been told by 2 people the day before that this book is a must read so 3 times a charm right? It must be…here’s an exerpt from a review I found…
In Kathryn Stockett’s stunning fiction debut, The Help, three ordinary women are about to take one extraordinary step . . .Twenty-two-year-old Skeeter has just returned home after graduating from Ole Miss. She may have a degree, but it is 1962, Mississippi, and her mother will not be happy till Skeeter has a ring on her finger. Skeeter would normally find solace with her beloved maid Constantine, the woman who raised her, but Constantine has disappeared and no one will tell Skeeter where she has gone. Aibileen is a black maid, a wise, regal woman raising her seventeenth white child. Something has shifted inside her after the loss of her own son, who died while his bosses looked the other way. She is devoted to the little girl she looks after, though she knows both their hearts may be broken. Minny, Aibileen’s best friend, is short, fat, and perhaps the sassiest woman in Mississippi. She can look like nobody’s business, but she can’t mind her tongue, so she’s lost yet another job. Minny finally finds a position working for someone too new to town to know her reputation. But her new boss has secrets of her own. Seemingly as different from one another as can be, these women will nonetheless come together for a clandestine project that will put them all at risk. And why? Because they are suffocating within the lines that define their town and their times. And sometimes lines are made to be crossed. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women – mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends – view one another. A deeply moving book filled with poignancy, humour, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don’t.

I’m so proud of our town we made the April Edition of Chicago Magazine for one of the top 20 Towns & Neighborhoods…if you didn’t get to see the article stop by the studio and read it for yourself!
Some of our fantastic retailers ran an ad in the same issue and I had the opportunity to take care of the photography for them be sure to stop by their stores - Alikat, Paisley On Main, Fuschia, The Renaissance Art Studio, The Bike Shop, The Prince’s Table, Run Today, M and Em’s, Tap House Grill, Katy’s Boutique and Run Today and let them know you saw their AD.
We all have our reasons for living in and loving Glen Ellyn this article made me think about mine…I was introduced to Glen Ellyn when I started dating my husband he grew up here but I met him after he moved to Florida. We flew here to “meet the family” I fell in love with the town …it reminded me of Old Greenwich, CT a place I lived as a child and spent my summers going back to visiting my best friend. After we got married, an opportunity with my husbands company gave us a chance to move here and we’ve never looked back.
So my top 20 reasons for loving, living & running my business in Glen Ellyn in no particular order…I have more but can’t list them all
- the wonderful, friendly people - great schools & teachers - my amazing church St. Mark’s Episcopal – a sense of community in a small town – the unique stores and businesses – Alikat, Paisley on Main, 10,000 Villages, Cosmos, Teas and Toes – fantastic food – Tap House, Honey, Vittorio’s, Tipi Thai , Brickhouse Bakery and Cafe, Bells & Whistles Snackery – Trader Joe’s – our town events…Couples Nite, JazzFest, Ladies Nite, 4th of July Parade, Madonnari off Main, Art Festival at Lake Ellyn, Housewalk, Garden Walk – any walk around Lake Ellyn, Glen Ellyn Library and all it’s wonderful events, our town history, College of DuPage and all it has to offer, the gorgeous homes and their unique architecture, our community organizations…Hepzihbah, Glen Ellyn Infant Welfare, Bridge Communities, the Morton Arboretum…ok it’s in Lisle but it’s right around the corner from me so I count it counts, the trains yes I love the sounds, our proximity to Chicago… a city I don’t visit often enough, the change of seasons however brief they are, the organized sports and all the relationships developed thru them, Treasure House a non profit retail shop right next store to me…I finally found an easy place to drop off our outgrown clothes and housewares as well as a place to find eclectic treasures …the name says it all, we also have a fantastic used bookstore…Bundle of Books where you can bring in used books and receive credits for your purchase of books, the special clients who have given me the opportunity to capture their families and relationships. Ok this is more than 20 and there is much more I could add but for me all this makes for wonderful images and memories…hey maybe I will start featuring some of these on my blog so we can spread the good news about Glen Ellyn….Congratulations & thanks to everyone who makes this town special!
